Distru now supports direct printing to Zebra printers using ZPL (Zebra Programming Language), enabling you to skip the PDF download step and print more efficiently right from your browser!

This guide will walk you through installing Zebra Browser Print, which is required for web apps like Distru to find and communicate with your printer.

βš οΈπŸ›‘βš οΈ Labels may look slightly different in ZPL than it does as a PDF due to the conversion process. Templates will need to be adjusted to achieve intended result!

πŸ–¨οΈ Why Use Zebra Printing?

When printing labels for packages, batches, or products (from Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, or Inventory), you now have the option to print using Zebra (ZPL) format instead of the traditional PDF.

  • πŸ’Ž ZPL is made for Zebra printers, creating more precise barcodes and scanning

  • βœ… Zebra option allows quantity-based printing (e.g., 5 labels for 5 units).

  • ❌ PDF printing does not support multiple quantities per item directly.

🧩 Installing Zebra Browser Print

To enable direct communication between Distru and your Zebra printer, Zebra Browser Print must be configured and running. Follow these steps:

1. Download Zebra Browser Print

2. Complete the Zebra Form

  • Fill in your name, company, and email to access the download.

3. Install the Application

  • Run the installer after download.

  • Once installed, launch Zebra Browser Print.

4. Configure Your Zebra Printer

  • Look for the Zebra icon in your system tray (bottom right on Windows, top bar on macOS).

  • Click the icon and go to Settings.

Step-by-step inside Zebra Print:

  1. Click "Manage" under "Added Devices".

  2. Ensure your printer is connected and powered on.

  3. Select your Zebra printer from the list and click "Add".

  4. Under "Default Devices", click "Change", select your printer, and click "Set".

βœ… Final Step: Enable Distru as an Approved Host

  • Keep Zebra Browser Print running in the background.

  • The next time you open Distru and try to print, you’ll see a prompt asking to add app.distru.com to the approved hosts.

  • Accept the prompt β€” this gives Distru permission to send print jobs directly to your printer.

🏁 You're Ready to Print!

When you next print a label in Distru:

  1. Choose the Zebra option in the template modal. (πŸ›‘ Make sure you have the right size labels in your printer for the selected template!)

  2. Select your printer and DPI resolution.

    1. To find the DPI of your printer

      1. Locate the part number (also called SKU) on the label on the outside of the printer.

      2. Find the digit in the part number that comes before the first dash.

      3. The number in this position corresponds to the DPI:

        • 2 = 203 dpi

        • 3 = 300 dpi

        • 6 = 600 dpi

  3. Set the desired quantity per item.

  4. Hit Print β€” and you're done!

If your printer doesn't show up, make sure:

  • Zebra Browser Print is running.

  • You've approved app.distru.com as a trusted host.

  • Your printer is powered on and connected.

  • You've refreshed Distru after connecting your printer to Zebra Print
