What's the Difference Between a Package Label and a METRC Retail ID Label?

Package Labels

Package Labels display product information like strain name, THC%, batch numbers, and compliance warnings. They identify what the product is and can be printed multiple times for the same product type.

Certain states require specific information and images (like warning symbols or state-specific graphics) to be included on these package labels.

Retail ID Labels

METRC Retail ID Labels include a unique QR code that tracks individual product units. Each QR code can only be used once and acts like a serial number for that specific item. This way individual products can be tracked to their original packages. With this label individual consumers can see all the key information from the COA and retailers can track their inventory to the unit.

The key difference: A package label tells you about the product. A Retail ID label identifies which specific unit it is.

Can They Be Combined?

Of course! A METRC Retail Id can be a part of the compliance label, or it can be a QR code by itself.

This flexibility lets you create the right label for your packaging needs.
