What Is Metrc Retail ID?

Metrc Retail ID provides a dynamic QR code solution that ensures compliance without needing to relabel packages as package tags change. Distru’s integration simplifies workflows by allowing users to generate, manage, and print Retail IDs directly in the Distru platform.

Getting Started with Retail IDs

🛑 WAIT! Before continuing to generating and printing Retail IDs, make sure you have done the following!

  1. Enable employee permissions in Metrc to generate Retail IDs (Or else the activity will fail in Distru)

  2. Create a label template in Distru that has a Retail ID QR Code!

Setting up a Retail ID Label Template

  1. Navigate to the Label Templates creator inside of the Main Menu

  2. You can create a new template, or duplicate an existing one

  3. Add or edit a QR Code element

    1. Select Metrc Retail ID from the Data Sources dropdown

  4. Create/Save your template

Generating and Printing Retail IDs

Step 1: Generate Retail IDs

  1. Navigate to the Packages section in Distru.

  2. Open the Package Detail View or select a package row's kebab menu.

  3. Click on the “Generate Retail IDs” button.

    1. Metrc only allows generating Retail IDs for packages that have a lab testing status of "Test Passed"

  4. A dialog will prompt you to specify the number of Retail IDs to generate.

    • The pre-filled quantity matches the package size but can be adjusted.

  5. Click Generate to create the IDs.

Step 2: View Generated Retail IDs

  1. Go to the new Generated Retail IDs Tab in the Package Detail View.

  2. This tab lists the Retail IDs, and if they have been printed previously with a timestamp

    • Retail IDs generated in Metrc will not appear here.

Step 3: Print Retail IDs

  1. In the Generated Retail IDs Tab, click the checkbox to Select All Retail IDs

  2. Click Print.

  3. Select your label template (must include the Retail ID data source or else it will not appear in the selector).

  4. Click Print to generate labels for the selected IDs.

    1. This will make an individual label for each Retail ID that also contains all of the other important package and product data from your template!

💡 Pro Tip! If you're printing the labels in batches, you can use the "Hide Printed IDs" toggle to mass select only IDs that haven't been printed yet!

⭐️ Printing can also be done from the kebab menu on the Packages Table for a given package that already has Retail IDs generated!

FAQs

What happens if Retail IDs are already generated in Metrc?

Distru only displays Retail IDs generated within its platform. IDs from Metrc are not visible and won't be able to be printed from Distru.

Why can’t I generate Retail IDs for certain packages?

Metrc requires packages to be in specific compliance states (e.g., TestPassed or RetestPassed). Ensure your package meets these criteria.

How do I know if a package has Retail IDs?

The Packages Table includes a badge showing the number of Retail IDs. A question mark icon indicates an “indeterminate” state, meaning IDs are distributed across child packages.

Can I print more than 1,000 labels at once?

Currently, PDF limits printing to 1,000 labels per session. If you need more, you can return to the print dialog and use the toggle to hide already printed IDs
