DistruLabels is a specialized tool designed specifically for creating compliance labels and managing METRC Retail IDs. All other cannabis operations—like managing packages, transfers, and purchase orders—should be handled directly in METRC.
Actions to Perform in DistruLabels
Generating METRC Retail IDs
While you can generate MRIDs in both METRC and DistruLabels, we recommend doing it in DistruLabels because it's easier to track which IDs you've printed and manage your labeling workflow in one place.
Creating Custom Properties
Add custom data fields to your packages and items for use on label templates. These properties exist only in DistruLabels and don't sync with METRC.

Design and save label templates that meet your state's compliance requirements, including templates with or without METRC Retail IDs.

Print labels directly from Distru! You can also see which labels have already been printed right inside DistruLabels.
Actions to Perform in METRC
Buying MRID Credits (State-Dependent)
In many states, generating METRC Retail IDs is free. However, some states require you to purchase credits for each MRID generated.
How credits work:
Credits are purchased through your METRC account
Generating an MRID (whether in METRC or DistruLabels) uses one credit from your balance
If you don't have enough credits, DistruLabels will block MRID generation until you add more credits in METRC
You cannot purchase credits directly through DistruLabels
⚠️ Important: Always maintain a positive credit balance in METRC before attempting to generate MRIDs in DistruLabels.
Managing Packages
All package creation, editing, and management happens in METRC. DistruLabels only reads package data for label printing—it doesn't modify your METRC packages, although any METRC Retail IDs generated in Distru will be available on that package in METRC.
Transfers
Creating and managing transfers between facilities is handled exclusively in METRC.
Purchase Orders
Purchase order creation and management is done in METRC.
