Table of Contents:
Naming Conventions
For accounts with DistruCommerce enabled, in each product profile, you’ll see fields for Internal Product Name and External Product Name. The Internal name is for your team and can be labeled however you prefer for production or fulfillment. The External name is what retailers see on your menu, so it’s best to keep that one polished, easy to read, and consistent across your catalog.
Suggested naming convention for the External Product Name:
Strain/Flavor Type | Size
Here are some examples:
Blueberry Kush | 3.5g
Blueberry Kush Preroll | 1g
Gelato Preroll Pack | 5pk
Banana Kush Cart | 1g
💡 Tip: Avoid typing product names in ALL CAPS. It’s harder to read and can feel visually fatiguing—using normal capitalization keeps your menu cleaner and easier to scan.
Note: You can add the brand name in the Brand field within the product profile.
💡 Tip: If the Brand name doesn't exist in the CRM yet, you can create it in the Vendor field. Once created, input the Vendor back in and you can now type in the newly created brand in the Brand field. (see below)
Adding the brand in keeps your external product names clean, while the brand appears in smaller text just above the product name on the menu (see example below). This also allows for filtering the full product list by brand.
There's also additional information that can be added into the product profiles that will show up on the product cards in your menu. Here's a list of a few different fields that can be filled in on the product level and how they show up on the menus:
Product Description
Add a short overview of the product and any standout features.
Product description is added in the product profile.
This is how the description displays on the product card in the menu.
THC / Testing Info
Include potency or lab results when available
You also have the ability to sell by THC for specific categories by toggling on/off in the Menu Settings. You can also choose to include the COA testing, if applicable.
If this option is toggled on, the THC test results will automatically import from the COA testing.
Note: If you want to override this result or if there is no COA testing available, then you can manually add in the THC testing in the Product Profile. (see image below)
This is how the THC testing displays on the product card in the menu.
Subcategory
Helps buyers filter within a main category (ex: infused pre-roll, live resin, rosin).
Here's an example of how subcategory is used for this extract.
This is how the Subcategory displays on the product card in the menu.
You can also toggle this filter on/off in the Menu Settings, if needed.
This is where you can adjust it in the menu settings.
Product Group
Useful for organizing by type or effect (ex: indica, sativa, hybrid)
Product groups can be made for internal or external use. However, keep in mind that a product can only be assigned to 1 product group at a time.
You would add the Product Group in the product profile.
You can also toggle this filter on/off in the Menu Settings, if needed.
This is how filters look with the setting toggled on.
Note: The Product Group currently does not show up anywhere on the product card. It only shows up under Filters if toggled on.
Strain
Add the strain name in the Strain field so buyers can search and filter easily.
You can choose from already created strains or create a new one through the field.
This can be added at the bottom of the product profile.
This is how the Strain displays on the product card in the menu.
You can also toggle this filter on/off in the Menu Settings, if needed.
This is how filters look with the setting toggled on.
🎁 Bonus: You can use this checklist to ensure that everything is good to go before adding to your menu.
